IRS mileage calculator 2026

Estimate a 2026 mileage deduction or reimbursement amount with the IRS standard mileage rates. The IRS changed the rates on July 1, 2026, so this calculator splits your miles into two periods. It is an informational tool for organizing records, not personalized tax advice.

How the calculation works

For each period, the calculator multiplies the miles you enter by the IRS rate for the purpose you chose, then adds the two amounts. For example, 4,000 business miles from January to June and 5,000 business miles from July to December give 4,000 × $0.725 + 5,000 × $0.76 = $6,700.00.

What this calculator does not decide

Keep the mileage log behind the number

A deduction estimate is only as good as the records behind it. IRS Publication 463 describes the records to keep for car expenses, such as the miles driven, dates, destinations and business purpose. Mileage Tracker is a manual mileage log for Android: you enter the date, distance or odometer readings, route, purpose and category (Business, Personal, Medical or Charity) for each trip, and you set the rate used for the estimate in the app. PDF and CSV exports are available with Pro.
